Denture Care

Proper denture care prevents oral infections, bad odors, and premature denture deterioration. Daily routine includes: remove and rinse after eating, brush all surfaces with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive cleaner (not regular toothpaste), clean the mouth (gums, palate, tongue) with a soft brush, and soak overnight in denture solution or water. Key care practices: handle over a folded towel or basin of water (dentures break easily when dropped), never use bleach on dentures with metal parts, never use hot water (causes warping), and remove dentures for at least 6-8 hours daily to allow gum tissue to rest (reduces risk of denture stomatitis). Professional relining may be needed every 2-3 years as the jawbone gradually resorbs. Dentures should be examined annually by a dentist. Replace complete dentures every 5-8 years as fit deteriorates due to ridge resorption.
