Gum Bleeding Guide
Causes of bleeding gums, when to worry, and effective treatment approaches.
Bleeding gums are the most common sign of gum disease, affecting nearly half of adults. While occasional slight bleeding when flossing is not uncommon (especially if starting a new flossing routine), persistent bleeding warrants dental attention. The primary cause is plaque buildup along the gum line, triggering inflammation (gingivitis). Other causes include vitamin deficiencies, medications (blood thinners), pregnancy hormones, and systemic conditions.
