Tooth Sensitivity Causes
Understanding the various factors that lead to sensitive teeth and available treatments.
Tooth sensitivity occurs when the protective enamel is worn down or gum recession exposes the underlying dentin. Dentin contains thousands of microscopic tubules leading to the tooth's nerve center, allowing stimuli to trigger pain. Common causes include aggressive brushing, enamel erosion from acids, gum recession, teeth grinding, cracked teeth, and recent dental procedures. Treatment depends on the cause and may include desensitizing toothpaste, fluoride treatments, bonding, or gum grafting.
