Acidic Foods and Teeth
The impact of acidic foods and beverages on tooth enamel and how to minimize erosion.
Acidic foods and drinks, including citrus fruits, carbonated beverages, wine, and vinegar-based dressings, can directly erode tooth enamel. This chemical erosion differs from decay as it doesn't require bacteria. To minimize acid erosion: wait 30 minutes before brushing after acidic foods (brushing softened enamel causes more damage), use a straw for acidic drinks, and rinse with plain water after consumption.
